Questions
Frequently asked
If the answer isn't here, the concierge desk will know — it is staffed around the clock.
The essentials
Where is the hotel?
715 Bush Street, San Francisco, CA 94108. Nob Hill, a couple of blocks from Union Square — two blocks up from Union Square, with the Powell Street cable car at the corner.
What time is check-in and check-out?
Check-in is at 3:00pm and check-out is before 11:00am. Early check-in and late check-out are each $50, subject to availability.
What if I arrive late at night?
No need to warn us. The concierge desk is staffed 24 hours, so someone will be here whenever you get in.
How many rooms are there?
50. Each is individually decorated — the hotel was restored room by room, so no two are alike.
Costs
Is there an amenity or resort fee?
Yes — $20 per night, per room. It covers high-speed Wi-Fi, the breakfast buffet and the water station. We state it here and on every room page rather than leaving you to find it at checkout.
What taxes are added?
Transient Occupancy Tax of 16.445%, charged on the room rate only.
Is a deposit taken?
All reservations are guaranteed with a valid credit card at booking, and a $100 security deposit is held at check-in for incidentals, then released.
What is the cancellation policy?
Cancellations and modifications must be made by 11:00am, 48 hours before arrival.
Breakfast
Is breakfast included?
Yes — a hot buffet with bacon, scrambled eggs, croissants, baguettes, toast, cereals and waffles made to order, served here from 7:30am to 10:30am. It is covered by the amenity fee.
Why do guests from another hotel eat here?
Golden Gate Hotel is our sister hotel, a minute along Bush Street. Its guests take breakfast here, and ours are welcome there. The two hotels are run together.
Rooms
Do all rooms have a private bathroom?
Yes. Every room at the Cornell has its own bathroom.
Is there air conditioning?
No. The building is from 1910 and has heating throughout, along with windows. San Francisco rarely needs more, but if it matters to you, please know before booking.
How many people can a room take?
Up to two, with the exception of the Triple Room, which takes three.
Will my room look like the photographs?
Broadly, yes — but every room is individually decorated, so the photographs show a representative room of that type rather than the exact one you will be given. If a particular feature matters, call us and we will check.
Practical
Is there parking?
Not at the hotel. A public garage is directly across the street, at its own prices. The cable car stops at the corner and BART is a short walk, so most guests manage without a car.
Can I bring my dog?
One dog per room, up to 40 lb. The pet fee is $50 per stay — not per night. Service animals are always welcome and exempt from the fee.
Do you have cribs?
Yes, on request. Please ask when booking so we can confirm availability.
Can I hold an event here?
Yes — the Jeanne d'Arc Event Space takes up to 80 guests, with a fully equipped kitchen, room for live music, and the option to bring your own caterer.
Is the hotel wheelchair accessible?
No. A Certified Access Specialist survey determined it is not technically feasible to remove the front steps or provide an accessible alternative, because of the age and construction of the building. We are sorry, and we would rather say so before you book.
